I’m a backend and distributed-systems engineer in Zurich, with strong experience integrating services owned by different teams, and in authentication and authorization platforms and event-driven data pipelines. Go for the last six years, Ruby on Rails before and alongside it, and a lot of experience with Google Cloud services. I work with continuous delivery, frequent small deployments, and strong recovery procedures. Belgian, in Switzerland since 2016.
I am given outcomes, not instructions. I work with little direction, decide what has to be built to reach them, and stay accountable for delivering it, though rarely on my own: the services usually belong to other teams, so much of the work is agreeing on the approach with the people who own them and building it together. Some of it is work nobody asked for: internal tooling, a Go worker pool library so a pipeline could scale, an observability stack across services, CI/CD for a platform that had none. None of that came at the cost of planned work.
I joined BLP Digital, which automates enterprise ERP processes with AI for 20’000+ daily users across 40+ countries, to support engineering as it scales. I work across the core platform, on the workflow API, the storage layer, observability, and identity, and on applying engineering best practices automatically across the department with agentic coding tools and MCP servers.
Nearly five years at Futurae, which builds strong customer authentication and fraud detection for banks and insurers, in the last part of it as principal engineer working across the backend, mobile, data, and QA teams. I broke down the wall between the data science and backend teams and built the first version of the event pipeline that replaced reading state from MariaDB and rebuilding the rest from logs: a Go worker pool publishing to Pub/Sub, a Spark pipeline on Dataproc, and a Go API serving the refined data back out. It became the basis for real-time fraud detection and risk-based authentication. I also set the microservice patterns the backend scaled on, and drove the move of the old Rails application to a backend-for-frontend architecture with federated OpenID Connect authentication and attribute-based authorization.
Four years building KYC and identity-and-access-management applications for individual banks on Appway, a JVM-based process-orchestration platform later acquired by FNZ, and connecting them to each bank’s core banking and directory systems. The CI/CD I built there for one customer project was reused by other teams and became part of the core platform.
Computer science at the Université catholique de Louvain, specializing in networks and security, finished in 2014 with a thesis in software development.
I run my own infrastructure at home, a fully declarative Kubernetes cluster on NixOS hosting what I would otherwise rent from someone else: media, photos, documents, password storage, git hosting, monitoring, and local LLM inference. I read around 100 books a year, and I shoot analog street photography around Zurich, developing the film myself.
